With the SPU TD 124, Thorens and Ortofon present a modern interpretation of the legendary SPU cartridge. The classic SPU design has been carefully refined and optimized for ideal compatibility with the Thorens TD 124 DD.

A revised generator system delivers an output voltage of 0.5 mV, reducing the demands on high-gain step-up transformers and active phono preamplifiers. This allows the SPU TD 124 to be more easily integrated into modern hi-fi systems.

For tracking, a highly polished nude elliptical diamond stylus is still employed. By significantly reducing the moving mass at the stylus tip, the recommended tracking force could be lowered while tracking ability was improved. The result is precise, dynamic and controlled music reproduction with a high degree of musicality.

The SPU TD 124 combines the characteristic sound of a classic SPU cartridge with technical refinements tailored to modern analogue playback systems and the Thorens TD 124 DD.
